Description of site/context
We are asked to provide conference presentations at the local, state, national and international level. Often these presentations require us to address a theme or issue currently of interest or of concern to the particular group
Conduct of sessions/project
Recently we have given presentations at the local level to teachers in the state, independent and catholic systems in Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth. We also regularly present at ALEA (Australian Literacy Educators’ Association) national conferences. We presented at the World Congress on Reading in Auckland and also regularly present at NZLA (New Zealand Literacy Association) national conferences. In addition to presenting at conferences we regularly attend other conferences, such as the Children’s Book Council of Australia national conference, to ensure we are aware of issues and trends and are up to date in all areas of our expertise, particularly pedagogy, literacy and children’s literature.
Our goal with conference presentations is to respond to the specific needs of the organisers and audience and continually share with others current theory in a practical manner, together with the writing and research in which we are currently engaged. A measure of our success is that often as a result of conference presentations we are employed to conduct short and long term professional learning sessions or conduct other projects by people who were present at the conference presentation.
